Notes / Requirements
  • Templates are made of ¼″ MDF.
  • Piece templates together with Isoloc joints when a single piece exceeds material limits.
  • Walls by others: template the framing only.
  • Walls by SDBA: template the complete finished width of the walls, underneath the countertop.
Engraving
  • Engrave templates for labeling and to show key details such as plumbing centers.
  • Engraved part labels include the room identifier and follow a clearly defined drawing and part-numbering system that eliminates all questions.
  • Engrave what the template size is derived from: “Unfinished framing width only” or “Finished diewall width”.
  • On cabinet templates, engraved lines represent the width of each cabinet and call out sink and plumbing locations.
Tolerances
  • For wall-to-wall cabinet templates, finished field walls may run ½″ shorter or up to 4″ longer before additional cost. That range is what typical scribes make up.
    • More than ½″ shorter and door handles hit walls and cabinets lack scribe room with our standard 1″ scribes.
    • Over 4″ longer, the scribe exceeds the 2″ edgebander limit and must be hand-made.
  • Any low wall or countertop being templated ships from SDBA a minimum of 2″ longer to allow for field dimensional changes. If finished field walls require it to grow beyond 2″, additional cost applies to rework those pieces.
